Leh 22 Oct: Lt. Governor of Ladakh, R.K Mathur attended a virtual conference on “AGRI-HORT Ladakh” with the Confederation of Indian Industries as the Chief Guest of the event. The aim of the conference was to deliberate on the prospects of rebooting and reimagining Ladakh’s agriculture and horticulture sectors.

LG Mathur appreciated the proactive participation of  CII in exploring avenues for growth and improvement in various crucial sectors in Ladakh.

Addressing the panel, LG Mathur stated that in order to realize the vision of becoming a completely organic union territory by 2025, Ladakh needs a self-sustainable and robust agri-horticultural solution. By covering more area under commercial cultivation along with improvement in processing techniques and effective marketing, Ladakh can realize that vision, he added.

Further, the LG spoke of upcoming local entrepreneurs who are keen on working in these sectors and suggested to chalk out handholding programs in order to produce high end products with maximum local participation.

Chairman of CII Northern Region, Nikhil Sawhney, Chairman of CII Ladakh,  Nawang Thinles, Vice-Chairman of CII Ladakh, Stenzin Chosphel, Director of Agriculture & Horticulture Department of UT Ladakh, Tarvinder Singh, Director of National Institute of Agri Marketing, Dr. Ramesh Mittal, Chief Technical Services Manager at IOCL, Rajat Batra and Managing Director of Arctic Refrigeration System Pvt. Ltd, Anshul Manchanda attended the virtual conference and submitted their expert inputs on various aspects ranging from improvement in productivity, crop diversification, precision food growing techniques, branding of local resources, green energy production technologies, composting techniques relevant to Himalayan regions and advanced storage methods for extreme winters of Ladakh.
