- Awareness Seminar on GST and Taxation held
Leh, Sept 19: The Defense Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) Auditorium in Leh today hosted a significant seminar on Goods and Services Tax (GST) and other taxation issues took center stage. The event saw the participation of notable figures including the Hon’ble Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, and other key officials such as Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk and various Councillors.
Opening the seminar, Phuntsog Toldan, Director of NIELIT, underscored the seminar’s focus on aligning local industry with skilled manpower, emphasizing the need for advanced knowledge in GST and accounting. DC Santosh Sukhadeve echoed this sentiment, highlighting the critical role of tax education in driving economic growth and the importance of understanding both direct and indirect taxes for local businesses.
In his keynote address, CEC Tashi Gyalson highlighted the seminar’s objectives, focusing on the need for skilled manpower in Ladakh’s accounting sector. Gyalson stated, “With the implementation of GST, it’s crucial that our local professionals are equipped to manage tax filings effectively. This is not just about compliance; it’s about empowering our community to leverage these regulations for maximum benefit.”
Gyalson also stressed the importance of ongoing training programs, noting that this seminar marks the beginning of a series of initiatives designed to enhance the financial skills of Ladakh’s youth. “The participation of over 30 students in this crash course demonstrates their eagerness to learn. We must continue investing in our human resources to prepare them for the complexities of accounting and taxation in an evolving economic landscape.”
The seminar included a certificate distribution ceremony recognizing participants who completed a 10-day Accounting Fresher Course, which aimed to enhance their financial management skills.
Chartered Accountants Preeti Singh and Ankit Prasad led an in-depth session on GST, which was followed by a Q&A segment where participants engaged in discussions about tax awareness and accounting practices. Singh pointed out the prevalent lack of awareness about tax benefits and the necessity of accurate filings for local businesses.
The event concluded with CEC Gyalson announcing plans for additional training sessions, ensuring broader access to essential accounting skills for residents.
