Ramban, Sept 16: In a fiery speech at a large election rally in Ramban, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President of the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of failing to curb militancy in Jammu & Kashmir, contradicting claims made by the ruling party. The rally was organized in support of National Conference candidate Advocate Arjun Singh Raju.

Rattan Lal Gupta strongly countered recent comments made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a rally in Doda. Shah had blamed the Congress-NC alliance for “nourishing terrorism.” Gupta refuted the accusation, stating that it was, in fact, the BJP’s “mishandling” of the situation that had led to an increase in militancy.

“Under the BJP’s double-engine government over the last ten years, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have faced worsening problems, devastation, and disillusionment. There is not a single significant achievement that the people of this region can attribute to the BJP,” Gupta stated.

Gupta further claimed that under the National Conference’s governance, the Jammu region had been made free of militancy. However, in the past two years, terrorist activities had resurfaced in several districts, including Chenab Valley, Pir Panjal, Udhampur, and Jammu, leading to fresh violence. “Our brave soldiers are being targeted in areas that were once free of militancy,” he said.

Looking ahead to the elections, Gupta said there is a growing “wave of support” for the National Conference across the region, referring to it as a “tsunami” that would bring the party back to power. He pledged that if voted back into government, the NC would take decisive action to eliminate terrorism once again and focus on providing basic amenities, which he said the current government has failed to deliver.

Alliance candidate Advocate Arjun Singh Raju echoed these sentiments, reaffirming the Congress-NC alliance’s commitment to addressing the pressing concerns of the public. He called on voters to support the alliance, promising that their victory would mark the start of a new era of peace and prosperity in the region.
