Leh, Sept 15: Renowned Art Conservator, Noor Jahan called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, the previous day and stressed that Ladakh needs a permanent post of Art Conservator due to the presence of a large number of heritage sites in Ladakh which need conservation works.
Advisor to the LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS and Principal Secretary, Sanjiv Khirwar, IAS, were present in the meeting.
At the outset, Noor Jahan informed the LG that she has been working as an art conservator in Ladakh privately for the past 12 years and is currently working as the project coordinator for a project being implemented by Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) in collaboration with Archives Department of UT Ladakh, an official spokesperson said.
She also informed the LG that she has done Masters and PhD in Conservation.
She highlighted the need for a permanent post of Art Conservator in UT Ladakh due to the presence of a large number of heritage sites in Ladakh which need conservation works.
The LG asked Noor Jahan to meet the Secretary of Culture and Tourism Department, Vikram Singh Malik in this regard to work out a novel plan so that she can contribute to the development of the Ladakhi society. He also asked the Advisor to the LG, Dr Pawan Kotwal, IAS, to remove middlemen and modify procedures in the tender process for the benefit of our local highly qualified youth.
