CEC inaugurates Pipiting PWD guest house, lays foundation for Khar Yokma Zangla beautification

  • Akhoon visits Yokma Namsuru, addresses grievances of locals

Kargil, Sept 15: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed guest house of the Public Works Department (PWD) at Pipiting, Zanskar. The guest house, built under the State Sector scheme, has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore.

In addition to the inauguration, Akhoon laid the foundation stone for the upgradation and beautification of Khar Yokma Zangla in Zanskar. The project, with an estimated budget of Rs 3.5 crore, is being developed under the District Capex Plan.

On the occasion, the CEC congratulated the villagers and the Queen of Zangla, expressing optimism about the project’s potential of tourism to enhance the area.

He highlighted the LAHDC Kargil’s commitment to welfare of the region, noting that Rs 3.5 crore had been allocated for betterment of people. He further instructed the executing agencies to ensure the project’s timely completion while maintaining high standards of aesthetics.

Dr. Akhoon acknowledged the major role played by Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Er. Punchok Tashi in sanctioning the project, calling him a leader the villagers of Zangla should be proud of. He reaffirmed the Hill Council’s dedication to the equal development of all areas across the district.

Addressing local demands including the construction of a boundary wall for the local monastery, a community hall, a prayer hall, and the establishment of a Horticulture Department in Zanskar, the CEC directed EC Tashi and Roads & Buildings Department to draft a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Additionally, he instructed the Deputy Commissioner, Kargil to dispatch a Horticulture Officer to assess Zanskar’s potential for horticultural development.

EC Tashi also congratulated the people of Zangla on the commencement of these vital projects and reiterated the commitment of the Council to accelerate the pace of development in Zanskar.

Meanwhile, Akhoon also visited Yokma Namsuru to address the grievances of local residents.

During the visit, the villagers raised concerns about several issues including early release of compensation for the NT Link road under the Right to Fair Compensation Act, the release of funds for H&WC at Yokma Namsuru, and the reccy of a paragliding venue proposed to take-off from Namsuru Shukha to Yokma Namsuru Spang.

Responding to the grievances, the CEC assured the villagers that he will give instruction regarding the compensation issue with the concerned authorities.

He further directed the Executive Engineer, SVD, Sankoo to assess the situation and take appropriate action.

Councillor Parkachik Constituency, Aga Ainul Huda accompanied the CEC.

Later, the villagers expressed their gratitude to Dr Jaffer Akhoon for his attention to their concerns and for visiting their village.
