CEC Gyalson leads deliberations on resolving ongoing Army land issues

Leh, Sept 15: In a significant development, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Leh, Tashi Gyalson on Saturday visited Army camps in Nimoo and Nurla and led deliberations with the stakeholders to address the ongoing Army land issues.

Gyalson was accompanied by DC Leh Santosh Sukhadeve; Councillors of Khaltse and Basgo Constituencies; Khaltse and Likir Sub Divisional Magistrates (SDMs); Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Leh; Tehsildars of Khaltse and Leh; Brig KMS Rana, Brig Q 14; Col Pushpender Singh; Col Navjot Kang; Col AHS Sandhu; Col Rajesh Prasad and Lt Col Hitesh during his visit to the Army Camps, an official spokesperson said.

The officials began their visit at the Nurla Army Camp, where a comprehensive presentation was given by S N Mehdi, detailing the historical and current status of the Nurla Military Station.

The presentation highlighted the military station’s occupation since 1990 and provided a detailed overview of the total land currently occupied by the Army. It also outlined the necessary adjustments to allocate some of this land for the benefit of the local communities.

The delegation then proceeded to the Army Camp in Nimoo, where they were briefed on the specifics of the land issue, including the layout of the Nimoo station, which comprises a North Camp and South Camp covering a total of 18 acres.

During the visit, Gyalson emphasized the commitment to support the relocation process and assured that adequate compensation would be provided. He stressed the importance of cooperation between civilians and the defense sector to achieve a harmonious resolution to the land issues.

The interaction between the officials and the Army personnel was constructive, reflecting a mutual understanding and a shared goal of resolving the land dispute in a manner that respects both military needs and civilian interests, the spokesperson said.

This visit underscores the LAHDC’s dedication to addressing land issues with sensitivity and fairness, ensuring that both military and civilian requirements are balanced effectively, he added.
