  • ADDC urges residents to link Aadhaar for better service delivery

Leh, Sept 15: A meeting aimed at reviewing Aadhaar penetration and its usage in promoting good governance was chaired by the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) of Leh on September 14 at the DC Office. The session focused on increasing Aadhaar saturation across various age groups and discussed strategies to link Aadhaar with essential services.

During the meeting, Taief Mir, Assistant Manager of UIDAI Ladakh, presented an overview of the status of Aadhaar saturation in the district. He reported that Aadhaar coverage for children aged 0-5 stood at 36.56%, while for the 5-18 age group, it was notably high at 122.75%. For those above 18, the saturation rate was at 81.25%. He also provided updates on action taken by various departments regarding Aadhaar registration and saturation.

Mir highlighted the need to activate non-functional kits and identify operators to handle them. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of organizing more camps to educate the public about Aadhaar registration and updating processes.

The ADDC stressed the critical need for improving Aadhaar saturation across the district. He urged residents to update their Aadhaar information, including linking it with mobile numbers and bank accounts, to ensure direct benefit transfers for various government services. All departments were instructed to prioritize Aadhaar seeding to streamline service delivery and enhance governance.

Further instructions were given to the Education Department and the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) to set up camps in schools to boost Aadhaar registration for children. The Chief Education Officer was tasked with involving principals and teachers in spreading awareness among students. Similarly, the ICDS Department was directed to mobilize Anganwadi workers to engage with communities. Banks were also instructed to promote Aadhaar during their financial inclusion camps.

The ADDC urged officials to clear all pending cases on the Aadhaar portal and called for increased public awareness about updating Aadhaar details, which can be done through the UIDAI website, mAadhaar app, or local Aadhaar centers.

The meeting was attended by heads of departments from various sectors and representatives from local banks.
