3rd National Lok Adalat in Kargil disposes off 658 cases

Kargil, Sept 15: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kargil, under the direction of the Ladakh Legal Services Authority, organized the 3rd National Lok Adalat on September 14. The event saw the constitution of five benches to handle various types of pending cases, including criminal compoundable matters, cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) cases, bank recovery matters, matrimonial disputes, and other civil cases.

The five benches were presided over by distinguished judicial and administrative officers, ensuring fair and efficient handling of the cases. The first bench was chaired by Malik Shabir Ahmad, Chairman DLSA and Principal District & Sessions Judge Kargil, along with Advocate Syed Mehdi Aga, Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel Kargil. The second bench was headed by Wangial Tsering, Sub-Judge and Special Mobile Magistrate (13th Finance), and Delden Angmo, Munsiff/Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Sankoo. The third bench was led by Imran Hanif, Chairman TLSC and Munsiff/JMIC Drass, along with Tehsildar Drass.

The fourth bench was presided over by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue Kargil and Tehsildar Kargil, while the fifth bench was headed by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Zanskar and Tehsildar Zanskar.

Out of the 701 cases referred to the Lok Adalat, 658 cases were successfully disposed of, marking a remarkable success rate. A total amount of Rs 1,29,050 was recovered as settlement, while Rs 1,70,150 was collected as fines.

The National Lok Adalat is part of the ongoing efforts to promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and reduce the burden on the judiciary by facilitating swift settlements and promoting justice at the grassroots level. This event not only helped resolve long-pending disputes but also contributed significantly to easing the judicial backlog in the region.
