Kargil, Sept 13: As part of the 9th Ladakh Zanskar Festival-2024, GDC Zanskar in collaboration with Ladakh Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Youth services and Sports, School Education Department and Sports Authority of India training center Kargil held a freedom run (Zanskar Marathon) under the banner of Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat.
The four kilometer run had two categories in under-19 (Boys & Girls) and Under-14 (Boys & Girls) in which more than 200 students from different schools of Zanskar Sub division took part enthusiastically. Students of GDC Zanskar also participated in the run.
The run was flagged off by SDM Zanskar, Romil Singh Donk. The run started from TFC Zanskar and ended at Dak Banglow via Pipiting and Khisharak covering a distance of 4Km.
The event was attended by officials of GDC Zanskar, LAACL, Department of Youth Services and Sports and School Education and Police Department.
In the Under-19 Girls category, Stanzin Zomskit of GDC Zanskar won the gold medal while silver was clinched by Rigzin Dolma of Higher Secondary School Padum and bronze medal was won by Padm Youdon of GDC Zanskar.
In Under-19 Boys, first position was bagged by Jigmet Akar of GDC Zanskar while second position was clinched by Sonam Rinchen of Lamdon School and the third spot was bagged by Padma Namgyal of Higher Secondary School Padum.
Similarly, in Under-14 Girls category, the gold medal was grabbed by Stanzin Dasal of High School Karsha while the silver was won by Jigmet Lhamo High School Karsha and the bronze medal was bagged by Stanzin Chhuzom of Duzin Photang School.
In Under-14 Boys, first position was bagged by Stanzin Chhustar of High School Karsha, second position by Staznin Wangjor of Marpaling Lamdon School and the third position by Stanxin Minggyur of High School Karsha.
The medals were presented to the winners by the chief guest, SDM Zanskar in presence of other dignitaries. The chief guest in his address urged the participants to make running a part of their daily activities. The participants were also addressed by principal GDC Zanskar. The event ended with the vote of thanks by Nazir Hussain, Deputy Secretary LAACL Kargil.
