Leh, Sept 13: In a ground-breaking move aimed at revolutionizing education, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, in partnership with Mumbai-based Purple People Labs, is set to launch Ladakh’s first-ever Academic Film Studio. The initiative, a first for the region, seeks to harness the power of film and digital media to enrich the educational experience for students across the Union Territory.
The groundbreaking studio, which will serve over 900 schools, is designed to bring education to life by producing engaging films and digital content in regional languages. This will allow students to learn through interactive and relatable content, helping bridge the gap between traditional classroom education and modern digital tools.
The partnership between LAHDC and Purple People Labs marks a significant step toward integrating media education into the K-12 curriculum, with the Mumbai-based organization bringing years of expertise in film and media education for schools. Purple People Labs is renowned for its innovative approach, which equips students with the skills needed to engage with digital content creatively and responsibly. The collaboration will enable Ladakhi schools to benefit from world-class training and resources.
Speaking on the occasion, Tashi Gyalson, Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC, Leh, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “We are excited to launch Ladakh’s first Academic Film Studio, which will not only enhance the quality of education in our region but also preserve and promote our rich cultural heritage by producing content in regional languages.”
This initiative is part of a broader effort by LAHDC to modernize the educational infrastructure in Ladakh, with a special focus on incorporating technology and creative arts into the curriculum. By embracing digital media, the region hopes to provide students with a more engaging and well-rounded educational experience, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and media literacy skills.
The studio will cater to the specific needs of Ladakhi students by creating content that resonates with local culture, history, and languages, thereby promoting a more inclusive educational environment. Additionally, the project aims to inspire young learners to explore careers in the media and entertainment industries, broadening their horizons beyond conventional academic paths.
The Academic Film Studio is expected to become a hub of creativity and innovation, setting a new standard for educational institutions in India. It will also position Ladakh as a pioneer in integrating film and media education into the mainstream school curriculum, a model that other regions may seek to emulate.
