Leh, Sept 13: In a pivotal meeting held at the VC Room of the DC Office in Leh yesterday, Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhadeve engaged with representatives from the Adventure and Local Tourism Operators Association (ALTOA) and the Hotel Association to review and discuss proposals for new tourism circuits in the Leh District.

The gathering saw executive members from both associations presenting their proposals for new routes, including the Hanle to Tso-moriri circuit via Kyun Tso, and the Chamser Lungser circuit. They highlighted additional routes that require opening and addressed the issue of certain existing routes that are currently restricted by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) or the Army.

The discussions also covered the state of older routes, many of which are in disrepair. The representatives urged for the restoration and maintenance of these routes to ensure they are safe and accessible for tourists.

In response, DC Sukhadeve directed ALTOA and the Hotel Association to submit a detailed requisition outlining all proposed new routes and necessary restorations. He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive proposal to facilitate the review and approval process.

The meeting also touched on ancillary issues affecting the tourism sector, including the need for office space for ALTOA, improved toilet facilities at key tourist locations, and the establishment of a private hospital to cater to foreign visitors.

Attendees included the Additional Deputy Commissioner, the Assistant Director of Tourism, and key executive members from both ALTOA and the Hotel Association. The collaborative effort underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing the tourism infrastructure in Leh, aiming to boost visitor experience and support local economic growth.
