Kargil, Sept 13: Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman/CEC of the LAHDC Kargil, convened a crucial meeting at the Dak Bungalow Zanskar to assess and discuss various departmental issues under the District Capex plan, State Sector, and other ongoing projects. The meeting, held today, brought together a host of key officials including Executive Councillor Er. Phunhok Tashi, Deputy Commissioner Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, SSP Shree Ram R, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Romil Singh Donk, and several divisional officers.
Dr. Akhoon reviewed the status of multiple departments, including Education, Power, Tourism, Public Health Engineering (PHE), Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Handloom, Health, Cooperative, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Youth Services and Sports, the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), and Rural Development Department initiatives. He emphasized the need for expediting ongoing projects and setting clear deadlines for their completion.
The CEC also highlighted the necessity for a legal framework to resolve disputes related to various projects, ensuring uninterrupted progress. Discussions also focused on the Cha Irrigation Canal and the Jal Jeevan Mission’s status in Itchar, Stongday, Karsha, and other villages.
Dr. Akhoon expressed concerns regarding the availability of essential medicines, the status of ambulances, and the arrangement of remedial classes for students in the region. He underscored the importance of clearing liabilities and accelerating the progress of projects under the SAMAGRA Shiksha initiative and the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Addressing staffing shortages in the Tourism Department, Dr. Akhoon called for immediate action to rectify the issue. He congratulated the people of Zanskar for attaining district status and reassured them of continued efforts to resolve issues and drive development in the area.
The CEC also praised the successful organization of the 9th Ladakh Zanskar Festival-2024 and commended the officers for their dedication. In a forward-looking move, he proposed the introduction of a ‘Green Charge’ for tourists, with the proceeds aimed at supporting sustainable development in Kargil.
