Kargil, Sept 12: The 13th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Ludhiana, in partnership with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kargil, carried out an extensive mock exercise on earthquake and cloudburst preparedness at the Higher Secondary School in Chiktan on Tuesday.
The simulation aimed to familiarize local communities with disaster response procedures and increase awareness about handling natural calamities, particularly earthquakes and cloudbursts, which are frequent hazards in the region. The exercise witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various schools in the tehsil, volunteers, and members of the public, including Apada Mitras, a local volunteer group trained in disaster management.
In addition to the mock drill, an Aadhaar camp was set up to provide essential services related to Aadhaar cards for the benefit of the local community. The camp offered services like enrollment and corrections, ensuring that residents had access to important identification services.
Dr. Sanjat Bhardwaj, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Shakar Chiktan, along with Naib Tehsildar Shakar Chiktan, attended the event. Dr. Bhardwaj reviewed the exercise, commending the efforts of the participants and organizers. He expressed his gratitude to the NDRF, DDMA, and all attendees for their dedication and contribution to the safety and well-being of the region.
“This drill was a vital initiative in ensuring that the people of Kargil are better prepared for potential natural disasters. The response and readiness displayed today are crucial in minimizing the impact of such events,” Dr. Bhardwaj said in his closing remarks.
The exercise was hailed as a success, with attendees gaining valuable knowledge on disaster response strategies and procedures.
