Leh, Sept 12: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) on Thursday heaped praised on the University of Ladakh for organising National Conference on Ladakh Climate Change Scenario and Environmental Sustainability, even as he stressed on efforts towards mitigating climate change in the region and assured all possible assistance in this direction.

The LG was speaking at the inaugural session of the two-day Conference, organised by the University of Ladakh (UoL), co-organised by NAMO Medical Education & Research Institute, Silvassa, supported by State Climate Change Center, UT Ladakh and sponsored by Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, at the UoL Taru Campus.

Expressing his happiness for participating in an important conference, the LG appreciated the University of Ladakh for organising the conference as an initiative for mitigating climate change at its Taru Campus which has the participation of eminent scholars from across the country and internationally.

He highlighted the initiative taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to tackle climate change on the world forum along with the solar power project initiated by him to mitigate the impact of climate change.

He highlighted the Prime Minister’s vision of making India a developed nation by 2047 and the impact of such sustainable actions taken by the current generation on the future generations.

Stating that the University of Ladakh is the best place to hold the conference on climate change scenario and environmental sustainability in Ladakh, the LG hoped that the conference would go a long way in achieving landmarks in mitigating climate change in the region.

He assured all possible assistance in promoting initiatives for mitigating climate change.

Calling education one of the most important aspects followed by health, the LG highlighted the pertinence of teaching and learning processes. He stated that learning processes help to develop students’ personalities and enable them to become good citizens of the country. He also highlighted the importance of extra-curricular activities and discipline in students. He advised the students to be accurate in what they are doing as it is an important part of learning and asked them to develop it and make it a habit.

The LG also released booklets on Instrument Facilities at UoL; Women Entrepreneurs in Ladakh: A Booklet on Ladakhi Startups; Westernisation and Modernisation in Contemporary China: Its Impact on the Millennial Generation by Tsultim Zangmo and Digital Marketing Strategy and Analytics by Dr Mohd Rafee and Arvind Gupta.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor, UoL, Prof SK Mehta welcomed the guests and highlighted various initiatives taken to make UoL one of the leading universities in India. Coordinator & Assistant Professor at the Department of Zoology, UoL, Dr Mohd Hussain, gave the vote of thanks.

The LG also visited the Science Block at UoL where he interacted with students and teaching faculty of Political Science. He also visited the Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), XRP and Genome Sequence labs.

Nand Kishore Agrawal from International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD); Prof Talat Ahmad from Wadia Institute of Himalayan; Director, ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Dr Pramod Kumar Pandey; Superintendent of Police, UTDRF Leh, Pardeep Singh; other prominent officials, research scholars and students from different universities of India took part in the conference.
