Kargil, Sept 12: In a concerted effort to combat the rising tide of youth suicides, the District Health Society of Kargil, in collaboration with the Health and Wellness team of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Akchamal, organized a significant awareness event on World Suicide Prevention Day 2024.
The program, held at GHSS Akchamal, aimed to address the escalating concern over suicide rates among the youth. With a focus on mental health, the event sought to educate students and staff on prevention strategies and the importance of mental wellness.
Psychologist experts Zakir Hussain and Syed Hassan Shah headlined the event with their impactful talks. They highlighted the disturbing trend of increasing suicide cases, especially among students, and discussed various causes and warning signs. The psychologists emphasized the importance of vigilance and support within the school community to help those showing signs of distress.
In addition to the mental health discussions, the paramedical team from NTPHC Akchamal played a key role in the event by distributing bi-annual doses of Albendazole to students. This initiative is part of a broader health campaign aimed at preventing helminthic worm infections, which are a common concern in the region.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Mr. Mohd Hussin, Incharge Principal of GHSS Akchamal. He expressed deep appreciation to the Health Department and the team of experts for their dedication and for choosing GHSS Akchamal as the venue for this crucial awareness initiative.
The collaborative efforts of the District Health Society and GHSS Akchamal underscored the commitment to enhancing mental health awareness and providing essential health interventions in the community.
