Kargil, Sept 12: In a collaborative effort to promote awareness about women’s safety and gender equality, the Special Cell for Women Kargil, in association with the Women Police Station Kargil, organized an informative session at Government Higher Secondary School Pushkum on Tuesday. The program, aimed at educating students about critical social issues, saw enthusiastic participation from the school’s students and staff.

The event began with an address by the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Women Police Station, who introduced the roles and responsibilities of both the Women Police Station and the Special Cell for Women. The SHO highlighted the importance of these institutions in providing protection and support to women, particularly in matters related to cybercrime and harassment. During the session, students were made aware of the rising threat of cybercrime and how the cyber cell functions to tackle these issues effectively.

In addition to cyber safety, the session also focused on gender-based discrimination. Social activist Khadeem Hussain delivered an engaging presentation on how gender discrimination begins at the grassroots level and perpetuates inequality. Hussain explained how society often unwittingly enforces discriminatory practices and the long-term effects of such behaviour. Further, the students were informed about the services offered by the Special Cell for Women, which provides counselling and support to women facing gender-related issues.

The awareness program concluded with a Q&A session, where students interacted with the speakers and gained valuable insights into women’s rights and personal safety. Both the police representatives and social worker emphasized the importance of being vigilant, aware, and proactive in addressing issues concerning gender equality and safety.

The program was well-received by the school community, with teachers expressing appreciation for the efforts taken to engage young minds on such crucial topics. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to foster a safer and more equitable environment for women in the Kargil region.
