  • DC Leh reviews implementation of PM Surya Yojana

Leh, Sept 11: The Deputy Commissioner of Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, held a meeting today at the DC office’s mini conference hall to review the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana in the district. The meeting, attended by officers from various departments and banks, aimed to assess the progress of the scheme, which promotes solar energy adoption through rooftop solar installations.

During the meeting, the Power Development Department (PDD) of UT Ladakh reported that 275 applications had been submitted through the national portal for the scheme. Of these, 29 solar projects have already been commissioned, while inspections for 15 other projects are underway. The department also noted that 10 vendors from the Union Territory of Ladakh are registered on the national portal.

DC Leh instructed the Power Development Department to identify high electricity consumers based on recorded usage data and encourage them to participate in the scheme. Additionally, he emphasized the need for a meeting with the registered vendors to further increase outreach efforts and bring more consumers into the fold.

Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the Ladakh Administration has approved a top-up subsidy of ₹20,000 per kilowatt-peak (kWp) for the first 2 kWp of rooftop solar capacity, and ₹10,000 per kWp for an additional 1 kWp. However, there is no subsidy for any capacity beyond 3 kWp, either from the central government or the Ladakh administration.

To further ease the adoption of solar energy, various public and private sector banks are offering loan facilities at attractive interest rates for consumers interested in the scheme.
