Leh, Sept 10: A week long certificate course on “Understanding Ladakh through its History, Geography, and Culture” for Defence and ITBP officers being organized by the University of Ladakh (UoL) at its Leh campus, Taru here concluded.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. S.K. Mehta and Brig Vinod, DGS Intelligence, Fire and Fury Corps graced the concluding ceremony. The one week course was jointly organized by the Centre for Himalayan and Trans-Himalayan Studies, the Department of History, and the Department of Political Science of UoL.
Twenty-four officers from the Army, Air Force, Navy and ITBP participated in this course. A total of twenty sessions were conducted and resources persons were from various institutions from within and outside UT Ladakh dwelt upon different modules of the course.
The course, a significant joint initiative by the University of Ladakh and the Fire and Fury Corps, is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of Ladakh to the army officers stationed in the region. It was divided into three key themes: Geography and Environment, History, and the Socio-Cultural Heritage of Ladakh.
In his address, the UoL Vice Chancellor expressed gratitude to the 14 Corps of the Indian Army for their support in organizing the course. He also extended his thanks to the organizing team and participants for their efforts in successfully conducting and completing the program. He emphasized that the collaboration with the Fire and Fury Corps will continue, with plans for more courses in the future.
Brig. Vinod highlighted the benefits of such courses for the officers. This marks the third edition of the course, with the previous two iterations having been successfully conducted and receiving positive feedback.
Among those present were Col. Ravi Prakash, Dr. Sonam Joldan (Dean of Academic Affairs), Dr. Phuntsog Angmo (Dean of Colleges), along with deans, coordinators, and faculty members of the University of Ladakh.
Pertinently, the course was inaugurated on September 2 by Lt Gen Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps; and Vice-Chancellor, Prof. S.K. Mehta.
The ceremony concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Rinchen Dolma, Assistant Professor of the Department of History, UoL.
