Kargil, Sept 10: The inaugural UT Ladakh Thang-Tha Championship wrapped up at Public Park Changrah, drawing over 150 players from across Ladakh to showcase their martial arts prowess. The event, organized by the Ladakh Thang-Tha Association in collaboration with the Thang-Tha Federation of India, was held under the expert supervision of National Referee Tariq Hassan and his team from the J&K Thang-Tha Association.
The championship saw distinguished guests including Syed Mehraj Ud Din Shah, General Secretary of the District Kargil Olympic Association, who served as the Chief Guest. Anayat Ali Shotopa, General Secretary of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, was the Guest of Honour. Other notable attendees included Mohammad Hassan, General Secretary of the Ladakh Thang-Tha Association, alongside senior sports enthusiasts, parents, and players.
Anayat Ali Shotopa praised the growing popularity of martial arts in Ladakh, highlighting the achievements of local players in Thang-Tha, Taekwondo, Boxing, and Karate at national and international levels. He also noted the forthcoming formation of the Ladakh Sports Council, which he believes will greatly benefit athletes by addressing challenges and expanding development opportunities.
In his address, Syed Mehraj Ud Din Shah acknowledged the support of the Thang-Tha Federation of India and commended the efforts of Mudassir Hussain Wazir, President of the Ladakh Thang-Tha Association, and Mohammad Hassan. Shah emphasized the rapid growth of the sports sector in Ladakh since its transition to a Union Territory, noting the increased opportunities for players.
The event concluded with a captivating sword fighting demonstration by players from Kashmir, which garnered enthusiastic applause from the audience and participants alike. Prizes, trophies, and medals were awarded to the winners, and mementos were given to officials in recognition of their hard work and dedication.
