Leh, Sept 10: Department of Psychology, EJM College organised World Suicide Prevention day following the theme: Changing the narrative on Suicide, released by International Association for Suicide Prevention day in collaboration with World Health Organization (WHO). The key-speaker invitee was Dr. Padma Angmo, HOD Psychiatry, SNM Hospital, Leh
The program commenced by honoring the key-speaker Doctor Padma Angmo, Head of the Psychiatrist Department SNM hospital by the head of the institution Dr. Sameena Iqbal, Principal EJM College with traditional khataks.
Tashi Thanphel, a Student of 5th semester presented the welcome speech of the program.
Following the welcome speech, Padma Yangchan a student of 1st semester appraised the audience regarding the stigma related to Mental health issues. Students of Psychology Department then presented a motivational song.
Dr. Padma Angmo presented the key-address in which she shared the valuable information regarding the idea behind observing the World Suicide Prevention Day. She also discussed the current scenario of the major causes of suicide and mental health issue in the context of Ladakh region. She also shared some specific preventive measures to deal with any kind of suicidal ideation.
The house was then opened for interactive session in which Doctor Padma Angmo addressed the queries put forth by the students and faculty members regarding the symptoms and causes of Suicide and Mental Health Issues.
Assistant Professor, Stanzin Nurboo, Dept. of Psychology, concluded the program by delivering the formal vote of thanks. He expressed his gratitude to Dr. Padma Angmo, Principal EJM College, Faculty Members, students and the support staff, for joining the program and making it a success. He also applauded the contribution of Miss. Dechan, Lab Assistant for her continuous back-end role in successfully organizing the program.
The program was moderated by Ms. Tsering Angmo, a student of 3rd semester, Psychology Department.
