Leh, Sept 08: The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Leh marked International Literacy Day today, focusing on the theme “Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Mutual Understanding & Peace.” The event took place at the District Programme Officer’s meeting hall and was conducted under the banner of the “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” initiative.

The ceremony commenced with a two-minute silence to honor Inspector Tsewang Namgyal of the UTDRF, who tragically lost his life during a rescue operation. Sh. Ghulam Mohi Ud-Din Wani (JKAS), the District Programme Officer for ICDS Leh, expressed his condolences to the inspector’s bereaved family.

In his address, Sh. Ghulam Mohi Ud-Din Wani emphasized the critical role of multilingual education in fostering mutual understanding and peace. He, along with the Child Development Project Officer of ICDS Leh, highlighted the significance of International Literacy Day in advancing educational inclusivity and linguistic diversity.

The event concluded with a pledge-taking ceremony, reaffirming the commitment to promote literacy and education in multiple languages. The gathering was well-attended by all CDPOs, Supervisors, Health and ICDS staff, as well as Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs), underscoring the collective effort in supporting educational initiatives.
