Kargil, Sept 08: In a landmark achievement for Ladakh, two specially abled children have made history by winning Gold Medals at the National Bowling Championship 2024 (Special Bharat Olympics) held in Delhi. Nono Musharaf Elahi and Sadiq Ali, representing the Union Territory, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination under the guidance of Dr. Zakiya Banoo, a physiotherapist at the Rehab Centre of Baqirya Health Care and Research Centre in Kargil.
Their outstanding performance led them to secure the top spot, with Kerala taking the runner-up position and Jammu & Kashmir finishing in third. This is the first time that Ladakh has achieved such a significant accomplishment at a national-level event for differently abled athletes.
To celebrate this historic victory, the Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) in Kargil hosted a grand reception in honor of the champions. The event, attended by Chairman of IKMT Hojjatul Islam Sheikh Sadiq Rajai, General Secretary Haji Ghulam Mohd, and executive members of Baqirya Health Care, as well as a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters, was a testament to the community’s pride and joy.
Dr. Ahmad Ali, President of Baqirya Health Care, expressed immense pride in the athletes’ achievement, noting that this marks Ladakh’s first Gold Medals in the Special Bharat Olympics. Chairman IKMT Sheikh Sadiq Rajai lauded the entire Baqirya team, especially the Physiotherapy Department, for their dedication to promoting inclusivity and health.
The parents of the athletes also extended their gratitude to the Rehab Centre team for their unwavering support and efforts in empowering their children to compete on a national stage. Dr. Nasreen, VP of BHRC, highlighted that this victory represents not only a personal triumph for the athletes but also a proud moment for Ladakh, showcasing the strength and potential of the specially abled community in the region.
