Kargil, Sept 08: The Physiotherapy Section of District Hospital Kargil, in collaboration with the IAP District Branch Kargil, observed World Physiotherapy Day. The event centered around this year’s global theme, “Low Back Pain and Physiotherapy,” highlighting the critical role of physiotherapy in managing this widespread health issue.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Mohd Mehboob, Incharge Physiotherapy Section District Hospital Kargil, underscored the importance of physiotherapy in preventing and treating low back pain (LBP), which has become increasingly prevalent among people of all ages, including adolescents. He stressed the need for greater public awareness of the benefits of physiotherapy, noting that many are still unaware of how it can enhance the quality of life, especially through non-invasive treatments.

“With lifestyle changes in Ladakh contributing to the rise in degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis, conditions like knee pain, spinal pain, and hip joint issues are becoming more common, particularly among the elderly,” Dr. Mehboob stated. “Physiotherapy can not only alleviate these conditions but also educate patients on lifestyle adjustments to prevent disabilities.”

Special awareness sessions were conducted by Dr. Mohd Sadiq Akhone and Dr. Kaneez Fatima, who provided in-depth information on managing low back pain through physiotherapy. The event served as a platform to educate the public about the importance of physiotherapy in improving overall public health, especially in combating non-communicable diseases.
