- LBA, CIBS host seminar on ‘Preservation and Promotion Bhoti Language’
Leh, Sept 08: The Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) and the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) co-hosted a significant seminar on the preservation and promotion of the Bhoti language at Chowkhang Vihara, Leh, on September 6. The event, attended by various scholars, activists, and local stakeholders, aimed to delve into strategies for strengthening the Bhoti language in contemporary times.
The seminar was graced by the presence of Tashi Gyalson, the Hon’ble Chairman/CEC of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh, who served as the Chief Guest. Gyalson emphasized the critical role of the Bhoti language in preserving Ladakh’s cultural heritage and praised the initiative as a vital step for the region. He acknowledged the importance of integrating Bhoti language education into schools to ensure effective outcomes and foster a deeper connection to the region’s cultural roots.
Gyalson also provided an update on ongoing efforts to include the Bhoti language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. He expressed confidence that, with the support of the current government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, this inclusion would soon be realized. Gyalson reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for the language’s formal recognition and promised continued support for initiatives aimed at its preservation and promotion.
Looking ahead, Gyalson announced plans to organize another seminar in the future to further advance the Bhoti language initiative. The planned event will focus on discussing additional strategies and measures to ensure the language’s continued relevance and vitality.
