Leh, Sept 06: In a significant move to address long-standing demands from the educational community, the Union Territory administration of Ladakh has announced the extension of the Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) Scheme to lecturers within the School Education Department.

This decision, made in honor of Teachers’ Day, has been formalized in Order No: LA(SED) of 2024, dated September 1, 2024, and was approved by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor.

The MACP Scheme, which is designed to provide career advancement opportunities for employees, will now be applicable to lecturers in the School Education Department of Ladakh. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the career progression of lecturers who have long awaited this recognition and support.

Under the newly implemented scheme, the administration has established a Departmental Screening Committee to oversee the implementation process. Chaired by the Director of School Education UT Ladakh, the committee includes the Chief Education Officers of Leh and Kargil as members. Their primary role will be to review and recommend financial upgradation cases for lecturers in accordance with the MACP guidelines.

The Screening Committee will convene biannually: once in January to address cases maturing between April and September, and again in July for cases maturing between October and March. The committee is tasked with ensuring that eligible lecturers who have fulfilled the required years of service are considered for financial upgradation, with recommendations to be submitted within 15 days of the issuance of the order.

This move reflects the Ladakh administration’s dedication to supporting and advancing the careers of its educational staff. By implementing the MACP Scheme, the administration aims to foster a more motivated and satisfied teaching workforce, which is expected to have a positive impact on the overall educational environment in the Union Territory.

The extension of the MACP Scheme is anticipated to be a welcome development for lecturers, offering them a pathway for career growth and acknowledging their contributions to the education sector in Ladakh.
