Leh, Sept 06: The University of Ladakh, Leh Campus, successfully organized an inter-department volleyball tournament from 2nd to 6th September 2024. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 13 teams, including 5 girls’ teams and 8 boys’ teams from various departments of the university.

Over the course of the tournament, a total of 11 matches were played, culminating in the final matches held on 6th September 2024. In the men’s category, the united team of the Travel and Tourism Department and Geology Department emerged victorious, defeating the Department of Physical Education by 2-1 sets.

In the girls’ category, the Department of Physical Education clinched the title by defeating the Department of Zoology with a straight 2-0 set win. Mr. Kamial Abbass from the Travel and Tourism Department was declared the best male player, while Ms. Sonam Lamo from the Physical Education Department was named the best female player of the tournament.

The final matches were witnessed by a large gathering of students and faculty members. Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh Prof. S. K. Mehta graced the occasion as the chief guest. He congratulated the winners and runners-up and expressed his appreciation for the high level of participation in the tournament. He also distributed trophies to the winning and runner-up teams. Dr. Jigmat Dachen, Dean of Students Welfare, expressed his gratitude to the students for their overwhelming participation and support, which made the tournament a grand success.

A special highlight of the tournament was the presence of the North East United Football Club, who were hosted by the university during the event. The club is currently in Ladakh to participate in the Climate Cup. Dr. Jigmat Dachen, in his welcome speech, extended a warm welcome to the club, emphasizing the honor felt by the university in hosting them.

Prof. Mehta also presented traditional khataks to the North East United Football Club players, marking a memorable moment for the university.
