GMDC Zanskar celebrates Int’l Youth Day with focus on ‘Digital Advancement and Health Awareness’

Kargil, Sept 05: The Government Model Degree College (GMDC) Zanskar, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir AIDS Control Society, marked International Youth Day with an engaging series of events centered around this year’s theme, “Click to Progress.” The celebration, held on August 26, 2024, emphasized the role of technology and digital engagement in youth development.

The day’s activities began with an intramural walkathon, featuring enthusiastic participation from students across all semesters. The walkathon not only promoted physical fitness but also encouraged students to embrace the theme of digital advancement through collective physical activity. Certificates were awarded to the top performers, recognizing their commitment and enthusiasm.

A debate competition followed, where students from various semesters engaged in lively discussions on topics related to the theme. The debates highlighted the crucial role of digital tools in personal and professional growth.

An informative presentation on “Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome: Prevention, Transmission, and Control” was delivered by Shabana Akhter and her team. Their presentation provided valuable insights into HIV/AIDS, emphasizing prevention strategies and control measures.

In addition to these activities, Mustafa Ali, Director of Physical Education at GMDC Zanskar, gave an insightful talk on “The Role of Youth in Sports.” He underscored the importance of a balanced diet and regular exercise in maintaining overall health and enhancing athletic performance.

Dr. Jamphel Sheyan, Assistant Professor of English, addressed the various challenges students face during their academic journeys. His advice on overcoming these hurdles was well-received and appreciated by the student body.

Dr. Abid Hussain, Convener of the Red Ribbon Club, closed the event with a speech reflecting on the day’s theme. He expressed his gratitude to all participants and contributors who made the International Youth Day celebration a success.

The session was expertly moderated by Rokhsana Perveen, a 5th Semester student, whose role ensured the smooth progression of the day’s events.

The International Youth Day celebration at GMDC Zanskar not only highlighted the importance of digital engagement but also reinforced the college’s commitment to fostering youth development and health awareness.
