Leh, Sept 04: The University of Ladakh (UoL) hosted an engaging and thought-provoking interaction session with Upender Tripathy, former Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MN&RE) Government of India and recipient of the Indian Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Administration, at its Leh Campus.

Tripathy was accompanied by notable dignitaries including Jigmet Takpa, IFS, and Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, UT Ladakh; and Iftikhar Hussain, Incharge, Ladakh Renewable Energy Development Agency (LREDA).

The event began with a warm welcome from Vice Chancellor, Prof. S. K. Mehta. He highlighted significant achievements of Upender Triphthy and emphasized the importance of such interactions in enriching the academic experience and broadening the horizons of students.

Tripathy delivered a compelling presentation that covered a range of critical topics including climate action and sustainability. He gave a talk on “India’s NDCs: Net Zero 2070,” discussing India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), including the ambitious goal of achieving Net Zero by 2070. He elaborated on the country’s carbon emissions, global greenhouse gas emissions, and India’s ‘Panchamrit’ commitments made at COP26. Additionally, he addressed India’s climate action ranking and future strategies for enhancing environmental sustainability.

Jigmet Takpa also provided valuable insights during the session, presenting on “Carbon Neutral Ladakh: A Data-Driven Perspective.” He outlined the path to achieving carbon neutrality in Ladakh, focusing on data-driven strategies and sustainable practices necessary for the region’s environmental goals.

Following the talks, participants were actively engaged in a dynamic Q&A and discussion segment. Attendees posed questions and explored various topics in an enriching dialogue. The event concluded with a deep sense of gratitude to the dignitaries for their time and invaluable contributions. The session was hosted by Dr. Qutsia Tabasum, Assistant Professor, Department of Forensic Science.
