Kargil, Sept 03: The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project Kargil inaugurated the 7th Rashtriya Poshan Maah today, focusing on the theme of “Growth Monitoring” to address malnutrition in the region. The event took place at the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) in Tumail Gatoo and saw active participation from Anganwadi Workers (AWWs), Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs), parents, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children from the Panchayat Halqa Tumail.
During the inaugural event, participants were educated on the significance of Poshan Maah and the crucial role that growth monitoring plays in identifying and combating malnutrition. A training session was conducted for the AWWs, focusing on the correct usage of growth monitoring devices and growth charts. These tools are essential for tracking the growth and development of children, ensuring early detection and intervention in cases of malnutrition.
As part of the initiative, screenings for Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) were carried out among the attendees. In a positive outcome, no cases of SAM or MAM were detected during the screenings.
The launch of this year’s Poshan Maah in Kargil is seen as a strong beginning, with several activities planned throughout the month to promote the health and well-being of children and mothers in the region. The focus on growth monitoring is expected to significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts to eliminate malnutrition in the area.
