- DC Kargil inspects irrigation canal systems in Latoo village
Kargil, Sept 03: In response to the ongoing water crisis affecting both irrigation and drinking water supply, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kargil, accompanied by district officers, conducted an official visit to Latoo village. This visit is part of the district administration’s ongoing efforts to tackle critical water shortages in the region.
During the visit, the DC inspected the village’s irrigation canal systems, which have been suffering from reduced water flow, significantly impacting agricultural activities. Local farmers and residents highlighted their struggles due to the water scarcity, noting that the Latoo Irrigation Canal, a crucial water source for their farmlands, has been compromised due to ongoing issues in water management and distribution.
In response to these concerns, the DC directed the relevant officials to expedite repairs and improve the efficiency of water supply to the canal. A comprehensive plan for the renovation of the canal infrastructure was also discussed, with an aim to provide long-term solutions to the village’s irrigation needs.
The DC also addressed the drinking water crisis in Latoo, acknowledging the severity of the situation. He assured residents that immediate steps would be taken to resolve the issue, instructing the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department to conduct a thorough assessment of the water distribution network. The DC emphasized the need for uninterrupted access to clean drinking water and urged the PHE Department to implement solutions swiftly.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable water management practices, the DC urged district officers to collaborate closely with the local community to ensure a timely resolution. He also mentioned that the administration would explore alternative sources of water to mitigate the crisis.
“We are committed to resolving the water crisis in Latoo village. Water is a fundamental necessity, and both irrigation and drinking water issues need immediate attention. We will ensure that no effort is spared in finding a sustainable solution for the people of Latoo,” the DC stated.
