Leh, Sept 04: In a momentous event that marks a significant milestone for the Traditional Archery Society of Ladakh, Advocate Tashi Gyalson, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, ceremoniously flagged off a team of skilled archers from Ladakh. These archers will represent India at the prestigious 5th World Nomad Games, set to take place from September 8th to 15th, 2024, in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The World Nomad Games, often hailed as the “largest and brightest games in history,” bring together athletes from across the globe to compete in traditional nomadic sports. This year’s edition in Kazakhstan promises to be a grand spectacle, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and athletic prowess of nomadic communities worldwide.

During the flag-off ceremony, Advocate Tashi Gyalson lauded the archers for their dedication and commitment to preserving and promoting traditional Ladakhi archery on the international stage. He expressed his pride in the team, emphasizing the significance of their participation in a global event that celebrates indigenous sports and cultures.

“This is not just a competition; it is an opportunity to showcase the unique cultural identity of Ladakh on a world platform. I am confident that our archers will make the nation proud with their exceptional skills and sportsmanship,” said Advocate Gyalson.

The Traditional Archery Society of Ladakh, known for its efforts to revive and sustain the ancient sport of archery in the region, has been preparing its athletes rigorously for this event. The team’s participation in the World Nomad Games is expected to highlight the rich traditions of Ladakh and bring attention to the region’s cultural and athletic heritage.

The 5th World Nomad Games in Astana will feature a diverse array of sports, including traditional archery, horseback riding, wrestling, and other traditional games, making it a unique celebration of nomadic cultures. The Ladakhi archers are poised to compete against the best in the world, bringing honor and recognition to their homeland.
