Kargil, Sept 02: Liyaqat Hussain was elected as the first-ever President of the All Teachers Joint Action Committee (ATJAC) Kargil following the committee’s inaugural general election. The election, held at the Auditorium Hall in Kargil, marks a significant moment in the history of Kargil’s education sector, as it signals the formation of a unified body representing over 1,500 registered teachers across the district.
The election process began at 10 AM and concluded at 4 PM, with Senior Lecturer Mohd Ali serving as the Returning Officer, ensuring the election’s transparency and fairness. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as teachers from various schools in the region turned out in large numbers to cast their votes.
The race for leadership positions was highly competitive. Liyaqat Hussain won the presidential race, earning the widespread support of the teaching community. Alongside him, Yousuf Ahmad was elected as the General Secretary, and Zakir Hussain secured the position of Cashier, completing the core leadership team of the newly formed ATJAC Kargil.
The formation of ATJAC Kargil represents a major milestone in bringing together the voices of teachers across the region under one unified banner. The newly elected leadership is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the concerns and aspirations of teachers, advocating for their rights, and enhancing their collective bargaining power.
The successful conduct of the election and the formation of ATJAC Kargil underscore the commitment of Kargil’s educators to working together for their shared goals. As the new leadership takes charge, there is a strong sense of optimism within the teaching community that their interests will be more effectively represented and that their collective voice will carry more weight in discussions with educational authorities.
