- ₹34,000 average earnings for beneficiaries, strengthens local economy
Kargil, Sept 02: With an aim to enhance agricultural productivity in Kargil, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil has unveiled its first-ever Mushroom Spawn Production Laboratory.
Er Punchok Tashi, Executive Councillor for Rural Development at LAHDC Kargil, alongside Vikas Mittal, General Manager of NABARD J&K jointly inaugurated the Laboratory in an inauguration ceremony held today.
The groundbreaking project, funded by NABARD, also encompasses the establishment of 10 mushroom production units managed by local Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Under the supervision of Dr. Nasreen Kacho, Incharge of KVK Kargil, these units aim to revolutionize mushroom cultivation in the district, providing a sustainable income source for numerous families.
Dr. Nasreen Kacho highlighted the project’s early success, reporting that the laboratory has already produced 1.2 quintals of mushroom spawn in its inaugural batch. This achievement has led to an average earning of ₹34,000 for beneficiaries from the first harvest, underscoring the project’s potential to uplift the local economy.
Dr. Kacho expressed her vision of making the winter season economically viable through mushroom cultivation, with a particular focus on empowering women in Kargil. She called for continued support from LAHDC Kargil to further assist individual women entrepreneurs in the region.
Er Punchok Tashi praised Dr. Kacho’s efforts in transforming mushroom cultivation into a sustainable income source. He assured that LAHDC Kargil would extend additional support through its subsidy component, emphasizing the vital role of agriculture and animal husbandry in the community’s sustainable development.
Vikas Mittal, speaking to the media, expressed his satisfaction with NABARD’s investment in Kargil. He commended the collaborative efforts of KVK Kargil and LAHDC Kargil in implementing and executing such beneficial projects.
The inauguration event was attended by CGM Lead Bank Kargil, Tsewang Dorjey, the incharge of NABARD UT Ladakh, along with scientists and progressive farmers, marking a promising new chapter in Kargil’s agricultural development.
