Kargil, Sep 01: The Department of Physical Education and Sports at Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar celebrated National Sports Day 2024 with a vibrant three-day intra-mural sports competition, held from August 28th to 31st. The event aimed to promote health, wellness, and teamwork among students.
The competition, which featured a seminar on health and wellness, was attended by both staff and students of Model Public School Padum. The seminar underscored the importance of self-care and fitness as essential components of overall well-being. Mustafa Ali, the Director of Physical Education, emphasized the importance of integrating fitness into daily routines. “Healthy habits start young, and it’s essential for students to make fitness a part of their daily routine,” he said. Ali commended the students for their enthusiasm and dedication to sports.
The event included thrilling table tennis matches with four teams showcasing their skills and determination. In the women’s singles final, Zafina Akhtar of Team Penzila emerged victorious over Falzang Angmo of Team Singey La. The women’s doubles title went to Khalida Banoo and Falzang Angmo of Team Singey La. In the men’s singles, Jigmat Akar of Team Penzila clinched the title, while Rigzin Chosfail and Tsering Lundup of Team Omasi La won the men’s doubles.
Mohd Iqbal, Principal of Model Public School Padum, also spoke about the significance of maintaining good health. Prof. Ashan Ali, the officiating Principal of GDC Zanskar, expressed pride in the students’ energy and enthusiasm. “We are proud to promote healthy competition and sportsmanship among our students. We look forward to many more exciting events like this,” he said, also appreciating the Department of Physical Education and Sports for organizing the event.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mustafa Ali, College Director of Physical Education and Sports, who expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers for making the event a success.
