Leh, Sept 01: Dr. Swati Biswas, a renowned professor from BITS Pilani, Hyderabad, has lauded the advanced capabilities of the Centralized Interdisciplinary Science Instrumentation Centre (CISIC) in Leh, highlighting its pivotal role in driving modern research and development despite the region’s challenging environment.
During her visit, Dr. Biswas expressed her admiration for the sophisticated equipment available at CISIC, noting that Ladakh’s ability to secure such high-end machinery is impressive. She particularly praised Prof. S.K. Mehta for his dedication and tireless efforts in establishing these exceptional facilities in a region known for its harsh climate.
Dr. Biswas recommended the establishment of a thermally insulated laboratory to maintain research continuity through Ladakh’s severe winter months. She also proposed several techniques to optimize the use of the current facilities, including innovative methods for DNA extraction and the use of X-ray diffraction (XRD) to study different minerals in combination.
In addition to her technical suggestions, Dr. Biswas extended an invitation to students from the University of Ladakh to participate in training programs at BITS Pilani. She emphasized the importance of institutional collaboration to enhance research outcomes and broaden the University of Ladakh’s visibility on the national and international stages. Dr. Biswas also expressed her enthusiasm for engaging in collaborative research projects with the University, reaffirming her commitment to fostering scientific and academic partnerships.
Concluding her visit, Dr. Biswas commended the University of Ladakh for its excellent facilities dedicated to the characterization of metals and metallic particles.
