Kargil, Sept 01: Underling the importance of judicious use of water, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor of LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon called upon the people of the region to preserve this vital resource for future generations, even as advocated for the use of eco-friendly aseptic sanitary pads and aligning the lifestyle choices with environmental sustainability.The CEC was speaking at the Navikru Eco Foundation’s Wipro Earthian regional award ceremony cum sustainability mela held at Auditorium Hall, Kargil, on Saturday.
Chief Education Officer Kargil, SD Namgial; Principal Government Model High School, Goma Kargil; Mohd Ismail, teachers, students of different schools, Jamia tul Zahra students, among others were present on the occasion.
In his address, the CEC commended the Navikru Eco Foundation for organizing the event, which he described as a great step towards promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
He emphasised the importance of judicious use of water, highlighting the need to preserve this vital resource for future generations.
Additionally, he touched upon the issue of biodegradable versus non-biodegradable waste and advocated for the use of eco-friendly aseptic sanitary pads and focused on the importance of aligning our lifestyle choices with environmental sustainability.
Dr Jaffer Akhoon also praised the innovative projects presented by students, reflecting their creativity and commitment to sustainability.
He reaffirmed the Council’s dedication to providing quality education in the district and applauded government teachers for their dedication and professionalism.
The CEC encouraged students to focus not just on securing jobs but on gaining the skills and knowledge needed to be self-reliant.
Chief Education Officer Kargil, SD Namgial, expressed his gratitude to the NGO for providing a platform for students to showcase their talents. He urged the organization to continue conducting such valuable programs in the future.
Similarly, Principal Government Model High School, Goma Kargil, thanked both the administration and the NGO for their support and initiatives.
During the event, awards were presented to various schools in recognition of their achievements in previous year’s Wipro Earthian Program and for their participation in this year’s activities.
Earlier, Preeti Chouhan, the founder of Navikru Eco Foundation, addressed the gathering, and provided insights into the NGO’s initiatives in Ladakh. The program was anchored by Assistant Project Lead, Tajammul Akhtar.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Akhoon attended the book release ceremony of “Last Man Standing,” an autobiography by Er. Haji Niaz, former Superintending Engineer at The Kargil Continental Hotel, Kargil.
Joint Director, Information, Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho; Chief Engineer, I&FC Maqbool Hussain; Chief Controller of Finance, LAHDC-Kargil, Iftikhar Hussain; Councillor, LAHDC-Kargil, Baroo-Minjee Constituency, Advocate Khadim Hussain; Former Director, Animal Husbandry, Dr. Raza Abassi; officers, senior citizens, authors and other distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
In his address, Dr. Jaffer Akhoon congratulated Haji Niaz and his family members on the release of his biography, emphasising the enduring impact of books as vessels of knowledge for future generations.
He highlighted the vivid aspects of Haji Niaz’s work, noting that it not only chronicles the author’s life but also encapsulates the rich history of Kargil within its pages.
The CEC encouraged Haji Niaz to continue his literary endeavours saying that lifelong learning and writing is essential for mental and physical well-being.
Dr. Jaffer Akhoon also urged writers to document history truthfully and without bias, stressing the importance of preserving the integrity of historical accounts for future generations.
Joint Director, Information Ladakh, Imteeaz Kacho also extended his best wishes to Haji Niaz while congratulating him and expressing gratitude for the author’s noteworthy contribution to literature by sharing his experiences as an engineer. He praised the vibrant cultural scene in Kargil, supported by initiatives from the Cultural Academy, and emphasized the importance of civil society’s involvement in such activities.
Kacho called upon the youth to engage in writing in various languages, including English and Purgi, and advocated for the enhancement of reading culture in Kargil.
In his address, Haji Niaz shared insights into his struggles and achievements, inspiring the audience with his life story. He expressed his gratitude to the dignitaries and guests for having gathered at the book launch to encourage him.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Dr. Raza Abassi, former Director, Animal Husbandry, Ladakh.
