Leh, Sept 01: The Marathon Expo for the Ladakh Marathon 2024 has officially opened, set to showcase various aspects of the marathon including race details, athlete information, and local attractions. This inaugural event promises to heighten excitement and engagement for this year’s marathon.
During the Expo’s opening at the NDS Sports Stadium, Chairman/CEC,Adv. Tashi Gyalson, LAHDC Leh, announced a prize pool of INR 45 lakh for the 2024 marathon. This significant increase in prize money aims to inspire and attract a greater number of participants to this esteemed event.
In his address, H’CEC emphasized the unique importance of this year’s marathon, noting that it coincides with the 50th anniversary of tourism in Ladakh. He praised the marathon’s role in enhancing both tourism and sports in the region. CEC also extended heartfelt gratitude to Padma Shri Chewang Motup Goba, the Founder and Race Director of the Ladakh Marathon, and his dedicated team for their commitment and efforts in making the event a resounding success year after year.
Additionally, CEC Gyalson participated in the expo by collecting his bib for the 11.2k race, signaling his personal commitment to the event.
The Marathon Expo will serve as a vibrant hub for all things related to the Ladakh Marathon 2024, helping to build enthusiasm for what promises to be a landmark event.
Climate Cup trophy unveiled
A spectacular event marked the trophy unveiling ceremony of Climate Cup 2024, here on Saturday. The event, organized by the LAHDC Leh in collaboration with the Department of Youth Services and Sports and the Ladakh Football Association, not only marked the commencement of this year’s football tournament but also celebrated Ladakh’s rich cultural heritage.
The ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries including the Chief Guest, Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Leh Adv. Tashi Gyalson, along with Executive Councillor for Culture Stanzin Chosphel, Secretary of Youth Services and Sports Vikram Singh Malik, and Shri Ayush IFS from the Indian Embassy in Dubai. The event also saw the attendance of Assistant Director of Tourism Fesal Iqbal Tantray, the Chairman of the Ladakh Football Association, officials from the All India Football Federation (AIFF), and Presidents of ALTOA, ALGHA, and the Biker Association.
A highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the Climate Cup 2024 trophy, a magnificent piece reflecting Ladakh’s artistic brilliance. Crafted by acclaimed local artists, Shri Tsering Namgyal, a master wood carver from Wanla Hinju, and Shri Sonam Tsewang, a renowned sculptor and painter from Tar village, the trophy captures the region’s deep-rooted cultural traditions.
