Srinagar, Aug 31: Lt General Prashant Srivastava has been appointed the new Corps Commander for the Srinagar-based 15 Corps.
He will replace Lt General Rajiv Ghai who has been appointed as Director General Military Operations and will take the charge of the sensitive Chinar Corps on October 15.
Lt Gen has done extensive deployments in the Kashmir valley. He was commanding a Rashtriya Rifles Force in the Valley and later was appointed as the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Counter Insurgency Force (Victor) in 2021.
Lt Gen Srivastava was commissioned into an elite Parachute Battalion of the Special Forces on 9 June 1990. An alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Lt Gen Srivastava has attended all important career courses including Defence Services Staff Courses Wellington (Tamil Nadu), Higher Command Course and National Defence College (USA).
He has an MSc in Strategic Studies and Masters of Philosophy to his credit.
Lt Gen Srivastava has vast operational experience having served in an intense counter insurgency environment in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and the North East.
He was awarded Sena Medal in 2011 while commanding his unit. He has held various important staff appointments prior to appointment as GOC 15 Corps. (AGENCIES)
