Leh Aug 31 :-  The Advisor to the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, UT Ladakh, Dr Pawan Kotwal, convened a preparatory meeting regarding the conduct of the 11th edition of the Ladakh Marathon at the Civil Secretariat, Leh.

At the outset, Secretary to Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh, Vikram Singh Malik provided detailed insights about the Marathon, challenges and bottlenecks which impede the event.

The event will feature six different categories with the participation of 6281 runners representing 28 countries, marking it the largest international event organised in Ladakh. The categories include the Silk Route Ultra, (122 km), Khardongla Challenge (72km), Full Marathon (42km), Half Marathon (21 km), 11.2km Run, and Run for Fun (5km).

During the meeting, a comprehensive powerpoint presentation was given by the organiser of the event, Chewang Motup, highlighting the importance of collaborative endeavours.

He informed the Advisor about the need of basic amenities, like availability of water, medical assistance, and a smooth traffic movement plan to be streamlined for the success of this event. The 11th edition of Ladakh Marathon, will take place from 5th to 8th September.

Advisor Dr Kotwal directed all the concerned departments and stakeholders to work hand in hand to make the event a successful one. He stressed that to deal with any kind of emergency during the event, Physiotherapists, helpline numbers of police, health officials, and other concerned officials must be readily available to handle any unforeseen situation.

Chewang Motup also stressed that the event should be promoted well on social media, and directed to ensure awareness among the public about routes and traffic movements to avoid inconvenience to the public. He stated that advisories should be issued well in time in these regards. Adding that traffic closures along Marathon route, to Coordinate with IAF for helicopters in case emergency to rescue and evacuate.

The meeting was attended by the Administrative Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh; Administrative Secretary, General Administration Department, UT Ladakh; Administrative Secretary, IT Transport, UT Ladakh; SS Leh; Principal Secretary, UT Ladakh; SSP traffic UT Leh; ITBP Security officials DIG, and other concerned officials, Director Rural Development Department joined the meeting virtually.
