Leh, Aug 29: In a significant step towards enhancing academic and research collaborations, the University of Ladakh welcomed a distinguished delegation from the U.S. Embassy in New Delhi today. Led by Graham Mayer, Minister Counselor for Political Affairs, the delegation included Gary Applegarth, First Secretary; A. Sukesh, Senior Political Advisor; and Abhiram Ghadyalpatil, Political Specialist.
The visit was characterized by a warm atmosphere and a shared optimism for future partnerships. Prof. S. K. Mehta, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh, expressed his gratitude for the delegation’s visit, highlighting the potential for new collaborations between U.S. institutions and the university.
Dr. Subrat Sharma, Dean of Research Studies, provided a comprehensive overview of the university’s recent achievements. He detailed the institution’s infrastructural advancements, international collaborations, and sustainability initiatives, underscoring its commitment to growth and innovation.
Graham Mayer’s address was a focal point of the event. He emphasized the strengthening of ties between the U.S. and India, particularly in the realms of education, technology, and clean energy. Mayer outlined several key initiatives, including the promotion of Indian students studying in the U.S., the establishment of semiconductor facilities in India, and the training of Indian astronauts in the U.S. He also highlighted the importance of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Clean Technologies as crucial areas for collaboration.
The day’s events included an engaging discussion between Mayer and the university’s faculty, covering academic collaborations, geopolitical shifts, trade imbalances, and advancements in clean energy technologies. Mayer acknowledged the robust academic relationships between the two nations and expressed enthusiasm for deepening these ties.
The visit concluded with a tour of the university’s state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. Dr. Sharma and the faculty showcased the Centralized Interdisciplinary Science Instrumentation Centre (CISIC), which boasts advanced instrumentation. Mayer praised the university for its leadership in developing sophisticated facilities and infrastructure.
The program was hosted by Dr. Tenzin Nakdon from the Department of Political Science, with Dr. Rajinder Kumar from the Department of Travel and Tourism delivering a vote of thanks, marking a successful end to a day of meaningful discussions and future-oriented planning.
