- Mishra joins public as celebrations fill air in region
Kargil, Aug 29: Days after the announcement of district status for the region, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retired) attended a public gathering in Drass to join the people in celebrating the historic decision.
The Lieutenant Governor was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner and CEO of LAHDC, Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, Senior Superintendent of Police Kargil, Shree Raam R and other officials, an official spokesperson informed on Thursday.
The LG received a grand welcome by the people of Drass who were happy and celebrating the decision of granting district status to Drass region, which was a long pending demand.
While addressing the public gathering, the Lt Governor Brig (Dr) BD Mishra congratulated the people of Drass for getting district status as announced by the Government of India.
The LG expressed his happiness and acknowledged that this significant decision will bring development and governance to the doorstep of people in the region.
The Lt Governor expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for approving the creation of five new districts in UT Ladakh, boosting regional development.
At the happy and excited gathering, the Lt Governor stated that since his appointment, he has been striving hard to improve the region adding that the creation of five new districts in Ladakh marks a new beginning to a better future. The LG said for the development and progress of society, the participation of women is necessary.
On the occasion, Councilor Ranbirpora, Abdul Samad; Councilor Bhimbat Abdul Wahid, political and religious leaders, prominent citizens, women and others expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi led government for granting district status to Drass.
Earlier, at Dak Bunglow Drass, a delegation led by Councilor Ranbirpora Abdul Samad, Councilor Bhimbat Abdul Wahid, BJP Chief Patron Drass, Fayaz Qari and prominent citizens met the LG and thanked him for his endeavours in granting Drass a district status.
They also thanked Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi and Home Minister, Amit Shah for announcing the district status for Drass.
