Drass, Aug 29: As part of the ongoing “I Drive Safe” campaign, the Traffic Police Ladakh organized an extensive road safety awareness program at the Drass Taxi Stand today. The event, aimed at educating drivers and the public about safe driving practices, was chaired by Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic Ladakh, Kacho Ishtyaq A. A Khan (JKPS). The program saw active participation from members of the Drass Taxi Union and other notable citizens of the area.
Hon’ble Councilor of Ranbirpora, Abdul Samad, Hon’ble Councilor of Bhimbhat, Abdul Wahid, and SHO Drass, Inspector Abdullah Khan, were among the dignitaries present at the event. Their presence underscored the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring safer roads in the region.
SP Traffic Ladakh, along with DTI Kargil Inspector Mohammad Nissar, addressed the gathering, elaborating on various aspects of road safety. Their presentations covered essential topics such as the importance of adhering to traffic rules, the risks of overspeeding, the necessity of seatbelt usage, and the dangers of driving under the influence.
During the event, speeches were also delivered by several key figures, including Hon’ble Councilor Bhimbat, Abdul Wahid, President of the Taxi Union Kargil, Ghulam Mustafa, President of the Truck Union Kargil, Idrees Ahmed, and President of the Taxi Union Drass, Aga Syed Ali. Former BDC Drass also shared his thoughts, emphasizing the critical need for road safety awareness in the region.
The speakers expressed their gratitude to the Traffic Police Ladakh for their initiative in organizing the program and pledged their support for the “I Drive Safe” campaign. They highlighted the significance of such awareness drives in reducing road accidents and ensuring the safety of both drivers and pedestrians.
In a symbolic gesture of commitment to the cause, “I Drive Safe” stickers were distributed among the drivers and affixed to vehicles at the stand. This initiative is part of a broader effort by Traffic Police Ladakh to promote safe driving practices across the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh.
SP Traffic Ladakh reaffirmed that similar awareness camps will be organized in all major areas of UT Ladakh, aiming to foster a culture of safe driving and reduce the number of road accidents in the region.
The event concluded with a call to action for all participants to take the message of road safety seriously and to share it within their communities.
