Leh, Aug 28: The Fire and Fury Corps is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this September, marking 25 years since its headquarters were established in September 1999.
As part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, three expeditions were flagged off today from Leh, focusing on promoting adventure, camaraderie, sportsmanship, and tourism in the region.
A cycling expedition from Leh to Siachen Base Camp was flagged off by Maj Gen DK Singh, SM, Chief of Staff of the Fire and Fury Corps. Additionally, a motorcycle expedition from Leh to Hanle via Umling La and back to Leh was also flagged off.
Another cycling expedition from Leh to the Kargil War Memorial was initiated by Maj Gen D K Singh, SM, Chief of Staff of HQ 14 Corps.
During interactions with the local community, members of these expeditions expressed their keen interest in exploring the scenic beauty of Ladakh. They also emphasized the importance of engaging with the local youth to raise awareness about the initiatives of the Corps and address the aspirations of the people.
The expeditions will visit schools, sports facilities, and interact with the population, spreading awareness about the developmental activities of the Corps and promoting tourism in the region.
Apart from their national security role, the Fire and Fury Corps has been instrumental in nation-building activities in Ladakh. According to one elderly member of the Ladakhi community, the Corps’ presence has significantly improved road connectivity and communication networks in the border areas. Community development, women’s empowerment, education, and skill development have always been core issues addressed by the Corps.
The Army’s Goodwill Schools have had a profound impact on the development of youth in Ladakh. Through the Jammu and Kashmir Special Scholarship Scheme, the Corps has helped students pursue higher education in top universities across India, including technical and medical courses. A student who participated in a National Integration Tour organized by the Corps recalled the opportunity to see India and even meet the President.
The ongoing Silver Jubilee celebrations and community engagements highlight the Fire and Fury Corps’ commitment to national security and the development of Ladakh.
These efforts, combined with the unique experiences shared during the expeditions, reflect the Corps’ enduring legacy of service and dedication to the region.
