Kargil, Aug 28: Under the Sampoorna Abhiyan Program, A significant outreach event was conducted in the aspirational villages of Akshow and Ating, part of the Karsha aspirational Block in Zanskar. The event, organized under the leadership of Dr. Gulzar Hussain, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAHO) Kargil, saw enthusiastic participation from the local community, including a strong presence of women and members of Self Help Groups.
Dr. Ashiq Hussain, Livestock Development Officer (LDO) Zanskar, took center stage to offer vital information on Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and other common livestock and zoonotic diseases. Dr. Hussain emphasized the critical importance of preventive measures and effective disease management practices to safeguard livestock health.
Diskit, the Coordinator for the Aspirational Village Program in Karsha, outlined the program’s objectives, stressing the role of community engagement in achieving developmental goals. He encouraged residents to actively contribute to the program’s success.
In his address, CAHO Kargil elaborated on the various schemes and services provided by the Animal Husbandry Department, with a special focus on the newly launched Mobile Veterinary Van service. This service, now operational across the Kargil district, can be accessed via the helpline number 1962, offering timely veterinary care directly to farmers’ doorsteps.
Dr. Hussain highlighted the importance of farmer cooperation in the upcoming FMD vaccination campaign and urged the community to participate in the 21st Livestock Census, commencing on September 01, 2024. Additionally, information about the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) and other beneficial schemes was shared with the villagers.
In a significant gesture to boost livestock health and productivity, the department distributed 70 quintals of livestock feed to the villagers. Dr. Gulzar Hussain extended his gratitude to the Director of Animal Husbandry, UT Ladakh, for approving the feed distribution and supporting community welfare.
The event concluded with heartfelt thanks from Nambardar and other community leaders, who expressed their appreciation for the continued support from the Animal Husbandry Department in enhancing livestock health and agricultural sustainability in the region.
