Bengaluru 29 :- In Francis Ford Coppola’s film ‘The Godfather II’, Senator Patrick Geary wakes up in cold sweat with the body of a woman lying next to him in a bloody mess. Now imagine a real-life scenario where a woman goes to bed with a close friend and wakes up in the morning, only to find her lying dead next to her.
While the fictional Senator Geary was left clueless as to how he landed up next to a dead woman in bed, for the real-life Aishwarya, the shock and disbelief were several times more as never even in her wildest dreams could she have imagined that the very friend whom she had tried to console over her marital discord the night before would end up in a pool of blood the next morning – with her throat slit.
When Aishwarya woke up on Wednesday morning, she felt an unsettling dampness in the bed. She opened her eyes only to find that the mattress was drenched in blood, with her choreographer friend and host, B Navyashree, 28, lying dead next to her.
The chilling scene unfolded at Navyashree’s house in Vishweshwaraiah Layout, Kengeri. “I never thought my friend would be lying dead next to me,” Aishwarya, who works with a real estate firm in RR Nagar, reportedly told cops.
Police have detained Navyashree’s husband A Kiran, 31, a cab driver, as the prime suspect. Police said it was Kiran who had slit his wife’s throat after she and her friend retired for the night.
Originally from Bhadravati in Shivamogga district, Navyashree and Aishwaraya were childhood friends. According to police, Kiran and Navyashree had tied the knot after falling in love, though they faced stiff opposition from their families.
“Differences cropped up between the couple over the last one year,” an officer said, with Kiran increasingly feeling insecure, given his choreographer wife’s social status. “Kiran wanted Navyashree to change her profession, but she didn’t agree to it. He also suspected her fidelity and often fought with her. Kiran used to regularly check Navyashree’s mobile phone, which irritated her,” the officer further said.
On Tuesday, Navyashree called Aishwaraya over to her home and shared the details of her marital discord with her, expressing her helplessness. “Both went to RR Nagar in the evening, where Navyashree met her friend Sunil, who suggested that Navya should approach police for help,” the officer said.
Aishwarya then stayed back at Navyashree’s home to keep her company. “Both had beer before Kiran joined them for dinner. Aishwaraya had to intervene when Kiran tried to attack Navyashree as the husband-wife duo had a fight. Around midnight, Navyashree and Aishwaraya went to sleep in one room, while Kiran went to another room,” police said.
In the morning, neighbours were alarmed, when Aishwaraya screamed upon realising that her friend was lying dead next to her. The neighbours rushed in and alerted the police control room. By that time, Kiran had fled the house. He was later arrested. (AGENCIES)
