Kargil, Aug 25: In a significant effort to enhance community hygiene and environmental awareness, the Jamiat Ul Ulama Isna Asharia Kargil (JUIAK) Ladakh executed a successful one-day Cleanliness Drive across Kargil, leading up to the observance of Arbaeen E Hussaini. This initiative saw enthusiastic participation from students, religious clerics, and local residents, all working towards a common goal of maintaining a pristine environment.

The Cleanliness Drive commenced from Isna Ashriya Chowk and was inaugurated by Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi, the President of JUIAK Ladakh. Over the course of the day, participants were seen diligently collecting waste, which was later handed over to the Municipal Corporation authorities at Inqilab Manzil for appropriate disposal.

Various Makatibs under the JUIAK banner took charge at the village level, with active involvement from religious leaders and community members. In Kargil Town, the drive was organized into six groups, each spearheaded by a religious scholar, focusing on different areas of the town. Besides waste collection, the initiative aimed to educate the public on the critical importance of cleanliness.

Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi addressed the media, underscoring the significance of this drive as a new tradition for JUIAK, which plans to incorporate it into their annual calendar. He emphasized the importance of cleanliness in daily life and urged the community to maintain clean surroundings, workplaces, and public spaces. He also highlighted the need to reduce reliance on single-use plastics, soft drinks, gutkas, cigarettes, and junk foods, which were identified as major concerns during the drive.

Sajjad Kargili, Political Incharge of JUIAK Ladakh, praised the initiative as a transformative step under Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi’s leadership. He expressed confidence that the drive would lead to lasting positive changes in the region.

The drive was deemed a resounding success, with a total of 10 quintals of waste collected. Sheikh Nazir Mehdi Mohammadi extended his gratitude to the Municipal Corporation Kargil for their efforts in maintaining the town’s cleanliness and to the district administration for their support. The organizers have committed to continuing and expanding this initiative in future years.
