Kargil, Aug 25: Gadheer Pishoo defeated Kako Shilikchey to emerge as the champion of the inaugural edition of district-level cricket tournament – the Goma Premier League, being played at Goma Kargil Play Ground.
Abuzz with excitement Goma Kargil Play Ground witnessed a thrilling competition as it hosted the final featuring a showdown between Gadheer Pishoo and Kako Shilikchey.
Organized by the youth of Goma Kargil, under the leadership of Nissar Tom and Imtiyaz Khan, the tournament featured participation from 42 teams across the district. This landmark event drew thousands of spectators, who contributed to the electrifying atmosphere at the newly constructed Goma Kargil Play Ground.
The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Chief Executive Councillor of the LAHDC Kargil, who served as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were notable figures including Abass Ali Khan, President of Youth NC Kargil, Anayat Ali Shotopa, an international player and General Secretary of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, former Ward Member Mohd Ali Lamboo, and prominent local businessmen Haji Hussain and Mohd Amin.
During the ceremony, Anayat Ali Shotopa presented a memorandum on behalf of the local youth, urging further development of sports infrastructure in the area. The memorandum highlighted key demands such as the expansion of the ground, improved fencing, relocation of changing rooms, installation of a lighting system, and the construction of a multi-purpose indoor stadium.
Dr. Jaffer, in his address, congratulated both teams for their outstanding performances and praised the organizers for successfully conducting a well-disciplined tournament. He announced a grant of Rupees 2 Lakh for the organizers and assured the youth that LAHDC Kargil is committed to addressing their demands, emphasizing that the development of sports infrastructure is a top priority for the council.
Abass Ali Khan also spoke at the event, expressing gratitude to Councillor Town, Haji Mohd Abass, for his crucial role in making the Goma Kargil Play Ground a reality. Although Councillor Abass could not attend due to personal reasons, he sent cash prizes for the organizers and both finalist teams, which were handed over by Abass Ali Khan.
The ceremony concluded with Dr. Jaffer distributing trophies and prizes to the victorious Gadheer Pishoo, the runner-up Kako Shilikchey, and the outstanding individual players. The successful execution of the Goma Premier League has set a new standard for sports events in the region, inspiring local youth and paving the way for future tournaments at the Goma Kargil Play Ground.
