Leh, Aug 21: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Leh, is set to conduct a large-scale mock drill on August 22, 2024, starting at 9:00 AM. The exercise will simulate a combination of disaster scenarios, including an earthquake, flash flood, and Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF). This initiative is aimed at enhancing preparedness and response capabilities in the event of such emergencies in the future.
The mock drill is a collaborative effort involving multiple agencies, including the Union Territory Disaster Management Authority (UTDMA), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Union Territory Disaster Response Force (UTDRF), along with key stakeholders such as the Indian Army, Police, Air Force, and paramilitary forces.
Authorities have requested that the general public remain calm during the exercise, particularly when they hear sirens or see emergency personnel in action. The community’s cooperation is crucial for the smooth and successful conduct of the drill.
“This exercise is a critical part of our disaster preparedness strategy,” a spokesperson for DDMA Leh stated. “We are simulating real-world conditions to ensure that all agencies involved can respond effectively and efficiently should such disasters occur.”
The DDMA Leh urges residents to participate by following safety instructions and remaining composed during the drill, emphasizing that this exercise is purely a precautionary measure designed to safeguard the district against potential future disasters.
