Kargil, Aug 20: In a ground-breaking effort to promote gender equality and empower girls through sports, a three-day horse riding and polo training camp was organized by Youth services and sports department and Education Department in collaboration with Horse polo promotion Committee, for girl students from various areas of District Kargil. The camp, held at Drass from August 18th to 20th, was conducted under the direction of Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhone.
The selected girls will have the privilege of being trained by the esteemed Guards of His Excellency the President of India in New Delhi in the coming days. This initiative, launched last year by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, aims to provide opportunities for girls to excel in horse riding and polo.
During the camp, participants learned horse riding and polo skills from expert trainers, focusing on building confidence, teamwork, and physical fitness. “I never thought I’d have the chance to learn horse riding, but this camp has given me a new passion,” said Choskit, a participant.
Dr. Jaffer Akhone, CEC LAHDC Kargil, last week during an interaction, emphasized, “We are committed to empowering girls through sports and promoting gender equality. This initiative creates opportunities for girls to excel in unconventional sports like horse riding and polo.”
The camp was a resounding success, with participants showcasing their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. The Youth Service and Sports Department, Education Department, and Polo Promotion Committee have pledged to continue supporting such initiatives, promoting sports and empowerment among girls in the region.
