Uri, Aug 18: Advocate Ashfaq Rasool Mir was elected as the Secretary of the Bar Association Uri on Saturday.

The elections for the position were conducted at the court complex in Uri.

Of the 22 Bar Association members who cast their votes, Advocate Ashfaq Rasool Mir received 15 votes, while Advocate Basharat Ahmad Sheikh garnered 7 votes.

Advocate Ashfaq won the election by a margin of eight votes.

Expressing his gratitude, Advocate Ashfaq said, “I am thankful to the Bar members who trusted me and elected me as the Secretary. I will work with honesty and dedication for the welfare of our bar.”

Advocate Hussain Ahmad Khan was appointed as the Election Commission for the election process, and Advocate Sajad Ahmad Banday served as the Presiding Officer.

This marks the first time that the Uri Bar Association has held an election for the position of General Secretary.

According to unconfirmed reports, the positions of President, Vice-President, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer were filled uncontested. (AGENCIES)
